The Oppo Reno 14 inherits the look of the previous generation, with a very usable AI and photography and a camera with a 7x zoom with extraordinary detail.

The Oppo Reno 14 5G is a mid-range mobile that aims to reach the premium section, both for its exquisite and robust anti-smudge design and for the bright screen it mounts and the photography it is capable of capturing, of which I especially liked its zoom without too much noise.
Just before the IFA 2025 international technology fair in Berlin (Germany), Oppo has surprised with the launch of its new smartphone, which elevates the concept of mid-range to offer an interesting update of the previous generation.
The new series of phones of the Chinese brand is made up of 3 models—the Oppo Reno 14 5G, the Oppo Reno 14 F, and the Oppo Reno 14 FS, with minimal differences between the latter two due to details such as storage configuration—ready to dazzle the European market and focused specifically on a young audience.
In relation to the base model, although some of its features have survived, such as the size of the screen, the refresh rate, and the peak of maximum brightness that it is capable of reaching, others have improved, such as the battery, which already allows you to forget about the charger even after a day and a half on.
Is the new Oppo Reno 14 5G worth buying? Yes, without a doubt and despite not having had the opportunity to test its predecessor, because I think it is a phone that works very well no matter what you throw at it, for a price of 599 euros in the basic configuration.
It gets a little hot when you demand too much from it, and it has the same processor as the Oppo Reno 13 5G and the Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G, but it will solve photography very well and has new artificial intelligence functions that, although they house some already well-known ones, are also out of the ordinary. Among them, Live photo Pro.
I also think it’s a good thing that Oppo has opted for a single, more advanced device instead of last year’s two, since between the base model and the Pro there were few differences (if anything, more battery and storage capacity), although their prices were far from each other: ₹37,999 and ₹39,999.

Design: It is out of the ordinary and very resistant.
I use an iPhone 16 Pro as my personal phone, which has a measurement and thickness that I consider perfect for the size of my hand. That’s why, when I come across a larger mobile, such as the new Oppo Reno 14 5G, I’m afraid that it will bother me too much during testing. I guess it will be the custom.
Previously, I had tested the Oppo Reno 13 5G, and I had loved it for its grip and its 7.24-millimeter thickness, so I did not expect anything especially different from this other phone, which narrowly surpasses it with its 7.43 millimeters. Therefore, I can only compliment this one in terms of the daily use experience and its portability, which its 187 grams facilitate.
Best of all, it is not that it is thin (which it is), but that it also has outstanding finishes, and this is especially noticeable in the green version (Luminous Green). Compared to the Plume White format in white that I was able to try then, created using Butterfly Shadow Design laser technology, I have the impression that matte suits it better.
And not only because of its color (please, we need more mobiles in this incredible olive green, sometimes black, which changes depending on where you are placed), but also because it favors its camera a lot, since the reflections play with the camera module to make it even more distinctive, as in the last generation.
It could even be said that the visual exceeds the material, since it is not only anti-fingerprint, but also raises the camera module without it being especially protruding and, therefore, forces you to put a case on it. It’s a goal that Oppo has scored for the second year in a row.

From the Oppo Reno 13 5G, it also inherits the size of its screen, AMOLED of 6.59 inches, and its peak maximum brightness of 1,200 nits in the direct incidence of the sun, so it does not fall short in power or in use, because the frames are very thin. As much as a 50-cent coin.
It also has a resolution of 1,256 and 2,760 pixels, a refresh rate of 120 hertz, and a density of 460 ppi, in addition to having an integrated fingerprint. I think it sits too low and sometimes gets complicated when using the phone with one hand, although it works like a shot and picks up the fingerprint from impossible angles.
The dual speakers also offer good results, as long as the volume is not raised too much, and it also integrates three noise-canceling microphones. In terms of connectivity, we are talking about a mobile with support for WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4.

Performance: Your battery grows, and the chip remains powerful
The Oppo Reno 14 5G mounts a MediaTek Dimensity 8350 processor, with a four-nanometer architecture, which repeats with respect to the previous generation and is located in the most premium mid-range. This time, it promises to have improved its performance by 20%, while its energy consumption has been reduced by 30%.
Although this chip adapts without problem to the type of use I usually give to a phone (checking social networks, sending messages, playing a video game, or editing photos), I think the brand could have taken it to the next level, although I also understand that if it worked with previous mobiles, why not repeat it on these?
When you give it a little bit of speed (in my case, in photo shoots), like all phones, it heats up, although not excessively, thanks to the fact that it has a cooling system known as AI Nano Dual-Drive, with an ultrafine vapor chamber and an architecture that improves heat distribution.
The most important thing, however, is what it is capable of offering: you can download several applications at once, even have them all open and fill the screen with windows, all together, without it freezing and without annoying interruptions.

The battery grows in capacity compared to the previous generation, going from 5,600 mAh to 6,000 mAh, which, in a way, makes you forget about the charger for two days with a normal use of about five and a half or six hours a day. This only shows that whoever opts for this phone will not only have an exquisite design in their hand but also a battery to match.
From what I have been able to verify with a standard one that I have at home, which is 30W, it goes from 0 to 25% in half an hour, but of course, we are talking about this one having less than half the capacity that works best and supports it, 80W. I calculate, then, that it can be charged to 100% in about 50 minutes, as the average in this segment.
Special mention, however, to the Super Battery Saver Mode, which can be activated voluntarily either in the Battery Settings section (it is automatically deactivated when the battery is charged to 50%) or when the phone reaches 5%. So, you can be playing a video on loop for half an hour, and it still doesn’t reach 0%.
This terminal also arrives with the ColorOS 15 operating system, based on Android 15. It is very fluid, and, like most of the customization layers of the competition, it seeks the best experience in AI and productivity, something that it achieves.
Cameras: you won’t have problems if you’re not good at photography.
The new Oppo smartphone is very well equipped at the camera level with 3 lenses of 50 megapixels, which shine both in photography and video, where no detail is lost either with the zoom (incredible performance up to 7x in both cases) or in scenarios with undesirable conditions.
The Oppo Reno 14 5G has the following camera setup:
- Sony main 50 megapixel, 26 mm, aperture value of f/1.8, and OIS.
- 8-megapixel ultra-wide, 15 mm, f/2.2 aperture value, and AF.
- 50-megapixel telephoto lens, 80 mm, 3.5x optical zoom, f/2.8 aperture value, and OIS.
- 50-megapixel main camera, 21 mm, f/2.0 aperture value, and AF.
The image is sharp, almost perfect, and I have hardly noticed any noise in the shots, although I was negatively surprised that it takes longer than usual to focus when you go from 1x (26 mm) to wide angle (which, by the way, barely rounds the corners, thank goodness).
This even happens by touching the screen to do it manually, since it takes a few seconds to react, although in its defense I will say that it has been in spaces with direct sunlight and that I understand that it is difficult for it.

Now, there are two things that have particularly fascinated me about the camera of this phone. The first is its zoom, as it moves between the different magnifications with a very interesting ease and, this time, without losing focus or detail.
And that is despite the fact that it incorporates a very interesting 3.5x optical zoom, with perfect operation up to 7x magnification, which makes the Pixel 10 – also recently presented—even fall short, since the maximum capacity of the periscope of Google’s standard mobile phone is 5x, but this is only 10.8 megapixels.
In all cases, the colors are bright and very natural with ample contrast, so I think that at the software level Oppo has done a good job in relation to color correction. Another interesting detail of the camera of this mobile is its triple flash system, innovative to say the least, with which night photographs are much more natural, although I am not a big fan of using it in these circumstances.
While the main and ultra-wide-angle cameras use the flash for close-range lighting, the third unit is a flash that also focuses for the telephoto lens, something very rarely seen and that has its advantages for improving photographs that demand closeness and detail.
It incorporates some of the photography modes that already came from the previous generation, such as underwater photography, as well as the slow-motion mode, omnipresent in this type of device, with the particularity that it records shots of only 10 seconds.
I particularly fall a little short of this format, and I would ask for a little more time, but it is true that I use it in very specific situations.
Portrait Mode also deserves a special mention, as it precisely blurs the background to highlight the face of the person being photographed. It is true that she has behaved well with her hair and has not erased strands without rhyme or reason, although she has eliminated (very well done, it must be said) one of my earrings.
Night Mode shines again… because of its absence? Yes, it’s a question, because it’s not the first time that we at Computer Hoy have wondered if this mode is really still necessary when, with the normal mode, the shots we get are practically identical.

It is true that it does not color the sky an intense blue, as we have seen in the tests of other devices, as others do, but it is indistinguishable from standard photography.
About the video, I admit that I was very surprised because I didn’t expect it to be so good. It doesn’t lose focus at any time, although I think it is more successful indoors, with artificial light, than outdoors.
It is true that outside an enclosed place it does not lose focus, but it does not hit as well with light, and it is difficult for it to find the natural color temperature, giving way to exaggerated contrasts.
Likewise, those who do not have a good hand with photography do not have to worry about anything that is not in the hands of artificial intelligence. This can benefit any photograph, including those in which there are elements that are not needed or wanted.
Thus, with the AI eraser, it is possible to erase people in the background but also minimal details that bother you: one of my plants has become as good as new when I have passed this rubber over the leaves that were yellow.
This technology has also been able to reinterpret the new scenario, without smudges or implausible edges, although in some cases the results have been less successful, and what was bubble wrap that he had on a piece of furniture has become a tile. At least, it is the same color.
