A survey shows that it is precisely those who use mobile phones and electronic devices the most who are most threatened on the Internet.
Every day new threats and scams emerge through the Internet. In many ways, it is often thought that people who are already at an age are the most vulnerable, for obvious reasons: a greater lack of knowledge in the use of technology. However, and as is often the case in these cases, the data point in another direction contrary to what pure logic might suggest.
According to a study, Generation Z is also vulnerable to suffering from the risks that are hidden on the Internet. In fact, half of young people could be at risk. The reason is also quite reasonable: it is true that they are better at handling mobile phones or computers, but it is precisely overconfidence in cybercriminals that is their biggest daily problem.
Gen Z is at risk
As a general rule, it is taken for granted that those kids who are part of generation Z handle technology like a fish in water. Very famous is the phrase that “today’s children are born with a mobile phone under their arm.” However, sometimes this thought can be wrong. And not just because sometimes they don’t even know how to use a printer or a keyboard.
The data has been given by a survey carried out among young people between the ages of 18 and 29. The purpose of the campaign was to test those who are part of Generation Z by asking them about Internet security issues. Well, the results are not at all reassuring: in total, 57% of them have no knowledge about it.
Apparently, the main problem is that younger people tend not to pay much attention to the recommendations made by experts. For example, when it comes to providing their data with carelessness. Something that scammers usually put into practice to later carry out their scams and deceptions, impersonating identities or accessing bank details.
In fact, it is striking that mature people, specifically those who are already over 65 years of age, tend to have fewer problems of this type, because their behavior is precisely the opposite: they are much more reluctant to offer data or show private information in any way. And much of the blame, it seems, could be on social media.
The risks faced by young people
One of the explanations that experts give for this apparently contradictory phenomenon is that, unlike their elders, members of Generation Z are more than used to being indiscreet (let’s call it that) on platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, or Instagram.
Or to put it another way: since they tend to share photos, opinions, and all kinds of publications without problems (also on WhatsApp, on many occasions), they are less likely to assume the risks that this type of behavior generates. A practice that, sooner or later, can end up upsetting anyone, regardless of their age.
