Adobe has announced the launch of Photoshop for Android in beta. The mobile version of the most famous image editor on the planet arrives a few months later than its iPhone counterpart and can be downloaded and used for free, although it is believed that it will end up being a paid option under subscription.
It’s Adobe’s third attempt to implement Photoshop on mobile phones after releasing Photoshop Express or the old Photoshop Touch app. And it seems the most powerful attempt. The company has been working on this renewal for some time, and with the introduction of the Firefly engine for generative AI, the app has been incorporating new functions.

Features of Photoshop for Android
The app offers some of the features of the desktop version (along with some shortcomings because it would be impossible to replicate it) in a mobile format that is often overlooked in the creative world. Obviously, it’s not a replacement for the PC version, but it can be useful in some situations. Adobe has listed some of the key features it includes:
- Combine and merge images using Photoshop’s main tools, such as selections, layers, and masks.
- Quickly remove or replace parts of an image with the intuitive Select by Touch tool.
- Remove distractions using tools like the Spot Healing Brush.
- Use Firefly-powered generative AI features like Generative Fill to effortlessly add or transform elements in any visual design.
- Enhance creative work with a growing library of free Adobe Stock assets.
- Make precise selections with Item Select and Magic Wand.
- Refine images with advanced tools like Delete and Clone Stamp.
- Control layers and effects with advanced blending modes and adjustment layers.
The app has shortcomings such as a lack of filters and that you can only crop images according to the proportion instead of using pixels or other dimensions. Content-based padding is also listed as “coming soon.” And you have to sign in with an Adobe ID account to use the application; nothing surprising considering that it will end up included as a subscription.
On the other hand, we must highlight the tutorials available for almost any available function (including AI ones), the good design of the interface, and the speed and simplicity to interact and navigate with your finger, using touch tools or easy-to-use sliders to drag and drop elements.
Photoshop for Android is in the beta phase and works on Android 11 with a minimum requirement of 6 Gbytes of RAM and 600 Mbytes of storage. Its download and use are free at the moment, but we think that when the trial period ends, it will be included in a future subscription, probably Creative Cloud.
