The Bose QC Ultra HP Gen2 go to the top of the best headphones I’ve ever tried. The noise cancellation and sound quality are excellent, to the point of isolating you.

The Bose QuietComfort Ultra HP (2nd generation) stands out for its sound quality and noise cancellation. It is difficult to find faults in them.
Does perfection exist? I’m not particularly involved in these theories when I talk about devices, but there are indeed products that come close to something that borders on this category.

Of all the devices I test throughout the year, it is difficult for anything to surprise me, since either what is promised is not 100% fulfilled or differs in some way from what I expected.

However, the Bose QC Ultra HP Gen2 proves that they deliver what they promise: excellent noise cancellation and audio quality that is hard to beat.

Do I buy the Bose QC Ultra Gen2?

The first thing you have to assess at this point is what you want headphones for. And within this, what matters most to you within this category, and what is your budget?

If you’re looking for headphones for sports, these aren’t your headphones. However, if what you want is a device to listen to music quietly, being able to isolate yourself from the outside and at excellent quality, I have to tell you that the Bose QC Ultra HP Gen2 are the perfect device for you. Of course, you will have to pay 479 euros (but I assure you that it is worth it).

In addition to the technical part, they stand out for their firmness, elegance, and comfort, since you can use them during a long working day without getting a headache, which happens with other competitors.

I also think it’s important to comment that if you have the first generation, I wouldn’t recommend you take the leap unless you do a lot of travel, want to enjoy a premium experience (wired), and need an improvement in autonomy.

Design and autonomy: comfort as a flag

One of the features that makes the Bose QuietComfort Ultra HP Gen2 stand out is its design.

Specifically, its case is quite compact considering that they are headband headphones. It is made of synthetic leather and is very pleasant to the touch.

The ear tips are particularly soft and comfortable, so you will hardly notice any pressure on your ears. In case they deteriorate, you can change them for others, since it is a device designed to last you.
On the right side of the headset, there are two buttons: one for Bluetooth connection and one for activating, stopping the audio, or skipping the song.. In addition, it has a touchpad on the side that allows you to customize it within these three variables: change immersive audio, access the voice assistant, and resume Spotify. You can also turn the audio up or down. I have to say that, once you get used to it, these gestures are quite intuitive.

To put some downside, I would like that in future generations, other apps could be chosen apart from this one, such as Apple Music, YouTube Music, or any streaming music service.

On the left earcup is both the USB-C connector, which not only serves as a charging port but also for playing high-fidelity digital audio: 16-bit/44.1 kHz or 48 kHz. This is included in the case. It will be especially interesting for those who use devices that support wired audio, offer DAC dongles, or want very low latencies (e.g., for gaming/PC).

In addition, the device comes with a 3.5 mm jack (also included) on one side and a 2.5 mm (for the headband) on the other, which will allow you to connect it to your computer so you can listen to streaming audio or edit videos without any problem.

Compared to the previous generation, there hasn’t been much variation in terms of design, but when something works, why change it? The metallic lines were indeed more elegant in the matte tones of Gen I, but it is a personal perception.

In terms of battery life, they offer about 30 hours of use with active noise cancellation, but if you turn it off, that figure increases to 45 hours.

They take 3 hours to fully charge, and if you need a quick charge for a journey, in 10 minutes you will have about 2 hours and 30 minutes. The latter has indeed been key in my analysis, since my train or bus journeys do not last more than that figure, and more than once a night, I have forgotten to load them.

Sound and connectivity: There’s no better noise cancellation than this.

Dear reader, if you are looking to isolate yourself completely, these are your headphones. The noise cancellation of the Bose QuietComfort Ultra HP Gen2 is such that if I had to give a specific grade to this feature, it would be an absolute 10. I doubt that technology advances so much that you can eliminate outside sounds better than these headphones do.

The next-generation ActiveSense version improves the suppression of annoying sounds, including noise peaks such as engines or trains, which has been especially useful in public transport. I haven’t tested them on planes, but I expect they’ll work just as well.

One of the options that I liked the most is that the device instantly detects when you put them on, which they have called On-Head Detection.

Thus, you don’t have to turn it on manually, but once you connect it to your mobile, it will locate it via Bluetooth, and it will always turn on. In addition, they can go into automatic sleep mode when you are not using them, which helps save battery life.

As for the audio quality, it is worth highlighting the bass power option, which you can do through its app.
In addition, this generation allows you to use the USB-C port not only for charging but also for playing high-fidelity digital audio: 16-bit/44.1 kHz or 48 kHz, which has allowed me to listen to any audio at the highest quality.

Another point to highlight is its application, one of the most complete I have seen to date. When you connect the device to it, it automatically recognizes it whenever you are no more than 9 meters away.

In addition, it has a series of modes so that you can activate the one that suits you best according to the occasion (Immersion, Silent, Alert). You can also control the level of cancellation you want manually, if you prefer.

There’s also a new Cinema Mode, which brings spatiality and balance to the surround sound and dialogue of the video content, offering a cinema-like experience.

Its equalizer will allow you to increase the bass (I advise you to try Reggaeton, like the latest one by Bizarrap and Daddy Yankee) and the treble (it is a luxury to listen to Lux’s album, Rosalía, in this format to appreciate her voice), as well as reduce them, if what matters to you is the music.

Perhaps for an inveterate music lover, this configuration could be a bit basic, but since you can then customize it to your liking, I don’t think it will be a problem.
