Analyst Mark Gurman has revealed in his Bloomberg newsletter the details of the 2025 AirTag 2. The tracker will have a major leap in range with a new chip that is more powerful and better accurate than the current model.
The new AirTags will have the U1 chip with Ultra Wideband technology that was first used in the iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. The Cupertino company could triple the range with the second generation of these trackers.
Security will be strengthened with the arrival of new features to prevent them from being misused. The AirTag 2 will have greater controls in pairing with mobiles and a built-in speaker to locate the device. If you haven’t placed a tracker at the point it indicates, you can identify it to prevent unauthorized tracking.
Apple is committed to integration with the devices in its ecosystem with the Vision Pro mixed reality glasses with the possibility of locating objects in virtual spaces. The Cupertino company has not revealed the features they are working on, but they say that it promises closer integration.
The analyst has confirmed that the AirTag 2 will not have major changes in terms of aesthetics with a compact size very similar to the original version and the button battery is maintained. Apple might just make some internal changes with the arrival of the new hardware.
When will the AirTag 2 be released?
Mark Gurman has confirmed that the AirTag 2 will hit the market in mid-2025, although the Cupertino company has not revealed the exact date at the moment. Everything indicates that Apple could present the device at the latest at the iPhone 17 launch event.
