Apple has just released the first beta of iOS 18.3 and although it does not bring great news under its arm, one of them is sure to delight lovers of robot vacuum cleaners. However, all eyes are on iOS 18.4, which will arrive in 2025.
Apple goes on and on, never stops even though 2024 is about to end, it is already cooking up the next update for the iPhone. Just a few days after releasing iOS 18.2, Tim Cook’s company has released the first beta of iOS 18.3. But, spoiler, don’t get too excited, that this version may not be quite what you expected.
As usual in these first betas, iOS 18.3 does not bring any major new features under its arm. The Cupertino team is focusing more on polishing what already exists and fixing those small flaws that are always found.
But this doesn’t mean that there isn’t anything interesting either, as the big surprise of this beta is the support for robot vacuums in the Home app. In a nutshell, you will soon be able to control this device from your iPhone. You can turn it on, off, choose the cleaning mode and even see its battery level, all from the Home app.
On the other hand, robot vacuum cleaners can also be integrated into the automations of your home. For example, you can tell Siri what you want the device to do, and it will get to work.
iOS 18.3 beta 1 arrives even if you don’t expect big news for the iPhone
However, calmly. While the code for this feature is already in beta, you likely won’t see it in action until the final version of iOS 18.3, which is expected in January. Apple is following its usual schedule, which is basically to launch a short beta in December, which precedes the launch in January.
In the meantime, developers can already tinker with this first beta. If you’re one of them and you’re already enrolled in the Developer Beta Program, you can download it now by going to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates > iOS 18.3 Developer Beta on your iPhone.
And what else can you expect from iOS 18.3? Well, not much more. Apple usually saves the big news for more important versions such as iOS 18.4, which is expected in April. There, potentially, great novelties will be seen.
Rumor has it that with iOS 18.4 Siri will finally have those steroids that Apple has promised so much and will become smarter and will be able to better understand the context of your questions. It’s also expected to integrate better with other apps on your iPhone.
