Samsung Ballie is warming up to arrive at your doorstep with AI-powered features like greeting people and giving style recommendations.

The technology company Samsung unveiled its Ballie robot more than five years ago at the CES technology fair in Las Vegas (United States), where it said it would function as a versatile personal assistant, so to speak.

More specifically, it was said that it could advise users on how to improve their fitness activities and that it could understand, assist, and react to people’s needs to “actively assist” with household chores. In short, a marvel of a product that’s almost ready for takeoff.

Interestingly, and although artificial intelligence wasn’t the big news in tech at the time, Samsung knew that this technology would be “central to truly personalized experiences” with this device, as the brand’s then chief scientist, Sebastian Seung, stated.

At a time in history when AI is constantly being talked about, Samsung has revived this unique virtual assistant, announcing that the robot, reminiscent of the Star Wars character BB-8, will be available in the United States and South Korea this summer.

The South Korean technology company is aware that it must differentiate itself from other similar products to make its product a great seller. To stay ahead and remain the leading player it is, it has partnered with Google Cloud.

This collaboration with the Mountain View (United States) giant will allow Ballie to implement Google Cloud’s generative AI technology, allowing the robot to interact naturally and conversationally with users.

Some of the features the device will have, powered by this Gemini, include adjusting the lighting in the rooms of the house, customizing activity schedules, setting reminders , and even welcoming guests at the door.

In this way, Ballie will utilize Gemini’s multimodal capabilities, along with Samsung’s proprietary language models, to process and understand different audio and voice inputs and cues. It will also be able to collect visual data with its camera and other information from its surroundings, thanks to various sensors.

Samsung Ballie as a household companion

Samsung believes this unique feature will allow its robot to adapt to and anticipate user needs, with interactions that are “more dynamic and meaningful than ever,” according to Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics

Or to put it another way, whoever has it won’t want to leave the house, because Ballie will be their assistant, friend, and confidant. That way, they can ask her for ideas or recommendations on what to wear to work or what accessories they should try on for specific occasions.

In addition to being a personal stylist, Ballie can help users improve their health and well-being. If they tell the user they’re tired or not feeling their best, the assistant will use Google Search to offer personalized advice and improve certain aspects of their daily life.

For example, the robot will be able to use Gemini to search for the most reliable sources related to exercise, sleep optimization, and monitoring. If you think this isn’t the ideal virtual assistant, raise your hand…
