Xiaomi presented the Xiaomi 17 with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a 7,000 mAh battery, and a rear screen that leaves the iPhone 17 Pro behind.

Xiaomi has more surprises up its sleeve. A few hours before presenting the Xiaomi 15T Pro, the Chinese manufacturer revealed its next flagship. The company took advantage of the announcement of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 to show the world the Xiaomi 17, a mobile with a peculiar design that will give people something to talk about.

The new Xiaomi 17 is part of a new strategy by the manufacturer to stand up to Apple. The mobile is not only inspired by the design of the iPhone 17 Pro, but also uses the number 17. As if that were not enough, Xiaomi left aside the Ultra model and adopted the Pro and Pro Max nomenclature used by Cupertino.

Beyond the controversy of names and design, the new Xiaomi 17s are real beasts. The base model has a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED display with 1.5K resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. The panel has SuperRED technology that allows it to reach a maximum brightness of 3,500 nits (300 more than the Xiaomi 15).

Under the hood we find the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, considered by Qualcomm to be the fastest in the world. This chip not only guarantees better performance and autonomy but also remarkable performance in AI tasks. In addition, the base model of the Xiaomi 17 integrates a monstrous 7,000 mAh battery with support for fast charging (100 W wired and 50 W wireless).

The Xiaomi 17 feature that surpasses the iPhone 17 Pro

The first thing that catches your eye about the new Xiaomi 17 is its camera module. Some will say that the manufacturer copied it from Apple, but we all know that POCO (Xiaomi’s sub-brand) implemented it first. To avoid comparisons and show that Chinese brands do not recycle designs every year, Xiaomi has integrated a screen next to the cameras.

Known as a dynamic rear display, this 120 Hz OLED panel gives new functions to the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. Users can place the clock, a media player to control their music, virtual pets, and more. If you’re a content creator or want to take a selfie with the rear camera, you’ll be able to use the screen as a real-time viewfinder.

The screen is not the only new feature in this new panel. The Xiaomi 17 has a Leica Summilux three-camera system with differences in sensors. In the base model we find a 50 MP main camera (f/1.67), accompanied by a 50 MP Leica ultra-wide-angle (f/2.4) and a 50 MP Leica telephoto lens with 2.6x optical zoom (f/2.0).

On the other hand, the Pro and Pro Max models offer more robust settings at the zoom. While the main camera and ultra-wide angle are almost identical to the base model, the Xiaomi 17 Pro includes a 50 MP Leica periscope with 3x optical zoom (f/3.0) and a 20 cm telemacro. Meanwhile, the Pro Max model improves the aperture to f/2.6 and offers a 30 cm telemacro.

The photographic offer is complemented by a 50 MP front camera for selfies, which can record 4K videos at 60 fps.

The iPhone 17 proves it’s much more than Apple’s standard model. It comes with a 120 Hz refresh rate to match the Pro models, a base configuration of 256 GB of storage, and a more versatile selfie camera.
